For its founder, a designer originally from Riga, Latvia, it was love at first sight. That single chair opened a window into something bigger. Along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Colombia, these woven chairs are everywhere, in modest homes and grand ones alike, rocking gently on porches through sun and tropical rain, in every color imaginable. A quiet, essential staple of coastal life. Back in Medellín, the obsession became a studio and the studio became a brand. Founded in 2014 and named after the hillside home where the first chairs were woven, Morro Contento, the happy mountain, the brand grew organically until Colombia's leading design stores came calling and architecture magazines took notice. Over the years the chairs evolved steadily, refined down to their most essential form. Drawn to the bold geometries, natural materials, and sun-saturated palettes of tropical modernism, El Morro developed a visual language that feels at once rooted and contemporary: a collection equally at home on a rain-soaked terrace or as a considered detail in a carefully designed living room. In 2023, the founder relocated to Berlin. There, reconnecting with a childhood friend and architect, Edite, Berlin-based since 2009, sparked the next chapter. The weaving is done by hand, string by string, in our Berlin studio. Does not crack or fade. Fully recyclable. - Floor protectors: Silicone, safe on all indoor floors - Weaving: Entirely by hand in the Berlin studio ## FAQ ### How do I clean and maintain the chair? Simple. A bit of soap and water does the job. The PVC string and the powder-coated frame are both easy to wipe down and dry quickly. No special products needed. ### How durable is the PVC weaving? Will it fade or crack over time? Our PVC string is developed specifically for outdoor exposure: sun, rain, and everything in between. Finding the perfect balance between elasticity and durability, it doesn't crack or break, and the color stays put. Inspired by a tradition, but ends up outlasting it. The string is also fully recyclable. Whatever doesn't end up on a chair gets gathered and used again. ### Can I leave the chair outside in the rain? Yes, that's exactly what it's built for. The chair was designed for balconies, terraces, and outdoor living, rain included. Just leave it out and let it do its thing. ### Is the metal frame rust-proof? The steel frame is finished with an electrostatic powder coating: the paint is applied and then baked onto the metal in an oven, creating a surface that is highly resistant to rust, scratches, and general wear. The frames are welded by hand by a metal artist and blacksmith in Liepāja, Latvia, and built to last a lifetime. ### Can I order in custom colors? Yes. If you don't find the color combination you're looking for among our current stock, we're happy to work with you on a custom order. Custom orders take up to 3 months to produce and deliver, so plan ahead. ### How long does it take to make and deliver a chair? Chairs currently in stock can be delivered immediately. Standard colors typically take 2–3 months. Custom color orders can take up to 3 months. We recommend checking our current stock before ordering. ### Is the chair handmade? Entirely. The steel frame is hand-welded by a blacksmith in Latvia. The weaving is done by hand, string by string, in our Berlin studio. ### What sizes and styles are available? We ship across Europe and worldwide. Shipping costs are covered by the customer and will be calculated at the time of order. ### Can the chair be used indoors as well? Absolutely, and many of our customers use them primarily inside. The chairs come with small silicone floor protectors so they won't scratch your floors, and their clean, minimal form fits naturally into contemporary interiors. ### Is there a warranty, and what if something needs repair? The chairs come with a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. Because each chair is handmade, individual parts, string or frame, can be repaired or replaced rather than the whole chair discarded. After the warranty period we offer a paid repair service. Or maybe it's simply time for a fresh color to match your new interior. Just get in touch and we'll find a solution. ## Shipping & returns ### Shipping We ship across Europe and worldwide. Shipping costs are calculated at the time of order and are covered by the customer. Outside the EU, import taxes and duties may apply and are the responsibility of the customer. ### Delivery times Chairs in stock are dispatched within a few working days. Standard color orders take 2–3 months. Custom color orders take up to 3 months. You will be kept informed throughout. ### Returns Standard orders can be cancelled within 14 days of delivery, in line with EU consumer rights. Return shipping is paid by the customer, and the chair must come back in its original, undamaged condition.
